Montgomery County Jail Roster
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office operates the Mac Sim Butler Detention Facility and publishes an official inmate and warrant search menu. Its three public choices are Current Inmates, Recent Arrests, and Outstanding Warrants. The current roster showed 608 people and the recent-arrest list showed 49 records when inspected on July 14, 2026. Those figures change with bookings and releases. No official refresh interval was found, so confirm urgent custody questions by phone.
Current Inmates is the right Montgomery County roster for people held in county pretrial or local custody. Recent Arrests is a separate 96-hour list. Neither search is a full criminal case file. Charges may change after prosecutors and courts act, and release from the list does not show the case outcome. For the filing, plea, disposition, or sentence, use the Montgomery County criminal court record.
The county roster also does not cover every form of custody. A sentenced Alabama prison inmate belongs in the Alabama Department of Corrections search. Federal inmates belong in the Bureau of Prisons locator. VINELink is the separate victim and custody-notification channel. People held by the City of Montgomery Municipal Jail follow the city jail route rather than the county detention roster.
Identity checks should use more than a name. Compare the date of birth and booking date, then open the detail row. A common name can produce several Montgomery County inmate records, while a suffix or middle name may appear only in the full profile.
Search Montgomery County Inmates
The public grid accepts a broad name search. It uses a contains match across first and last name, so a partial spelling can help when the full form is uncertain. The roster then provides the name, date of birth, booking date, sorting, filtering, pagination, and a View button. A hidden BookNum opens the individual detail page.
- Open Current Inmates for present county custody or Recent Arrests for bookings made during the last 96 hours.
- Enter part or all of the first or last name in the search toolbar. There is no required booking-number input in the inspected roster.
- Compare the name, date of birth, and booking date. Use gender, race, and age on the recent-arrest grid when needed.
- Select View to open the inmate detail by its internal BookNum and review the profile fields.
- Call the Sheriff's Office at (334) 832-4980 when a result is missing, identity is uncertain, or current release status matters.
Note: A booking number is not a criminal court case number, and a roster result does not prove guilt or show the final charge disposition.
Montgomery County Recent Arrests
The Recent Arrests grid is limited to the last 96 hours. It is useful when a person may have just entered local custody and the current-inmate name search is unclear. Each row can show the full name, gender, race, age, date of birth, and booking date, with a View button that opens the inmate detail through BookNum. Pagination offers 10, 25, or 50 rows.
A recent-arrest row and a current-inmate row answer different time questions. The first shows a recent booking event. The second shows who appears to be housed at the time of the roster search. Release, transfer, or a data update can cause the lists to differ. Neither result states that the person was convicted. The charge description in a booking profile is an accusation or custody field, and the prosecutor may later amend, reduce, drop, or formally file a different charge.
The sheriff portal also carries outstanding warrants, but a warrant row is not a booking. It has its own FolderNum, warrant number, birth date, and issue date. When the purpose is to learn whether an arrest led to a live court case, save the name and booking date, then check the appropriate District or Circuit Court case record. Do not search the court by BookNum because the jail's internal booking identifier is not the court's case number.
Montgomery County Roster Fields
The web roster has one optional search toolbar rather than a multi-field form. Its controls and results provide several ways to narrow a Montgomery County inmate search.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search toolbar | Text | No | Contains search across first and last name. |
| View | Button | No | Opens detail using the hidden BookNum. |
| Name | Result | No | Displayed as last, first, middle, and suffix when present. |
| Date of Birth | Date result | No | Helps distinguish similar names. |
| Booking Date | Date-time result | No | Shows the local intake date and time. |
| Pagination | Control | No | Page sizes of 10, 25, and 50 with refresh. |
| Sort and Filter | Grid controls | No | Columns can be sorted and filtered. |
Montgomery County Inmate Profiles
A detail profile can show more than the grid row. The inspected model included a booking photo, identity fields, booking date, physical descriptors, and a charge list that can include charge descriptions and bond amounts. Some charge objects were null in roster data, so an empty field is not proof that no court charge exists.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| BookNum | Internal booking identifier used to open the profile. |
| Booking Date | Date and time recorded for the current booking. |
| Name and DOB | Full identity fields and birth date. |
| Booking Photo | Public image embedded in the inspected profile. |
| Race, Gender, Ethnicity | Demographic fields present in the data model. |
| Height, Weight, Hair, Age | Physical descriptors, with height formatted in feet and inches. |
| Charges and Bond | Descriptions and bond amounts when the charge object contains them. |
| Not shown | No SSN, address, housing pod, medical flag, attorney, court date, or projected release was visible. |
The sheriff also directs residents to the Montgomery County app inmate records feature for the housed-person list.
The app route is important because the jail description says its list includes complete name, booking date, bond amount, and charges.
Montgomery County Custody Locations
The Mac Sim Butler Detention Facility is the county jail. The Sheriff's Office is responsible for day-to-day operations, and the facility is designed to hold 1,200 inmates per day. The captured jail page did not publish a separate 24-hour inmate phone. The Sheriff's Office main line is the documented phone fallback.

City prisoners may be held in the separate Montgomery Municipal Jail. Its schedule and visitor rules do not apply to Mac Sim Butler. State prisoners, federal prisoners, and city detainees should therefore be searched through their respective systems.
Montgomery County Custody Channels
Choose a locator by the agency that has custody. Montgomery County's sheriff roster covers the local detention facility. The municipal jail is a City of Montgomery operation. Alabama Department of Corrections covers sentenced state prisoners, while the Bureau of Prisons covers federal inmates. VINELink serves custody and victim-notification needs. One search cannot reliably cover all five channels.
- Current county inmate or recent booking
- Use the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Current Inmates grid, Recent Arrests grid, or sheriff app.
- City jail detainee
- Use City of Montgomery Municipal Jail and Municipal Court channels.
- Sentenced state prisoner
- Use the Alabama Department of Corrections state inmate search.
- Federal prisoner
- Use the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator.
- Custody notification
- Use VINELink for victim and custody-status notifications.
Call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office when the likely custodian is local but the web roster gives no clear match. The official material captured did not provide a separate round-the-clock inmate line, so (334) 832-4980 is the supported phone route. Give the full name and birth date if known. Do not send confidential identifiers through an unverified app or unofficial directory.
Montgomery County Sheriff App
The Montgomery County AL Sheriff app can search inmates and recent arrests. It also offers sheriff news, events, Amber Alerts, and a sex-offender locator. It is not an emergency-reporting tool; emergencies go to 911. The app is available through both major mobile stores.
The official Apple App Store listing shows the Montgomery County AL Sheriff app and its public-safety features.
Apple users can use the listing to confirm the app name and publisher before opening the inmate-search feature.
The official Google Play listing provides the Android version published by OCV for Montgomery County.
Android users should match the county name and publisher because unofficial apps may not carry current sheriff data.
Montgomery County Inmate Visitation
Mac Sim Butler visits use the Video Visitation Program. Every visit must be registered and scheduled through ICSolutions at least one day in advance and no more than one week ahead. Only approved visitors may participate, with no more than four visitors per inmate. On-site visits use terminals in the facility visitation center. Remote visits are fee-based and require a tested Windows, Android, or iOS application.
| Visit Type | Days | Hours | Location and Rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-site video | Saturday-Sunday | 8:00 am-11:00 am; 12:00 pm-5:00 pm | Facility terminals; schedule 1 day to 1 week ahead. |
| Remote video | 7 days a week | 8:00 am-12:30 am; 2:30 pm-9:00 pm | Windows, Android, or iOS; fee-based; test app first. |
The official ICSolutions Visitor system is the required registration and scheduling route.
The scheduling screen connects the roster identity check to the approved-video-visit workflow.
Municipal Jail Visitation Schedule
The City of Montgomery Municipal Jail uses a different schedule. Visitors must bring valid photo ID. Cell phones and packages are not allowed. These time blocks apply only to the municipal jail, not the Montgomery County detention facility.
- Male federal inmates and city prisoners with court dates: Saturday, 8:00 am-10:30 am and 12 noon-4:00 pm.
- Male convicts and city inmates serving time: Sunday, 8:00 am-10:30 am and 12 noon-3:00 pm.
- Female inmates: Sunday, 3:00 pm-5:00 pm.
Official Montgomery County sources reviewed did not provide commissary deposit rules, mail addressing rules, phone rates, tablet details, dress code, child-visitor policy, or holiday changes. Those details are intentionally not stated. Confirm any such issue with the Sheriff's Office before sending funds, mail, or property.
The same limit applies to release projections and housing assignments. Those fields were not visible in the inspected inmate model. Bond and charge details may be stronger in the app description than in a current-inmate grid row, but the court remains the source for a filed charge and current bond order. If a visitor needs the inmate's approved scheduling identity, confirm the exact roster profile before registering with ICSolutions. A similar name or an old recent-arrest entry can point to the wrong person.
Remote visits require the user to download and test the ICSolutions application before scheduling. Android users are directed to The Visitor or ICS MOBILE; iOS users search the Apple Store for ICS MOBILE. The tested device must be ready before a time can be booked. On-site users still register in the same system, then use the video terminals at the facility visitation center. The one-day minimum and one-week maximum scheduling window apply to both planning and availability.
Note: County jail, municipal jail, state prison, and federal custody are distinct; use the holding agency's roster and visitation rules.
